Australian Shepherd, also known as Aussie!

Despite it's name , the Australian Shepherd actually origins from USA. It is the only herding breed developed in the US. It is a breed made for work, and is definitely not for the lazy one!It is a dog that need to work, both with his mind and body.

From the beginning it was used as a herding and guarding dog. The Aussie was developed in the ranches of USA, where it had to be a very versatile herding dog to be able to help with the ranch diferent kind of animals, such as: cattle, sheep, ducks, goats, pigs, poultry and so on. This is qualities many Aussies still have and that you should be aware of when you get an Aussie. Many Aussies are still used for this. Like many other herding dogs the Aussie can also be a bit reserved towards strangers (but it doesn't have to be). This makes it even more important to put some extra effort in socializing your pup.
